It was released in the UK through the label Polydor on February 2, 2009 and will be available on 7" picture disc and CD single and is very likely to appear on Now That's What I Call Music Vol. 72.
Released in late September 2008, "Gives You Hell"
did not experience much initial success. However,
the song slowly gained, and on January 15, 2009 it
became the All American Reject's third top ten
single on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, at #6. This
was partially due to a larger increase in digital
sales, jumping to #4 on the Hot Digital Songs chart
that week. The following week "Gives You Hell"
climbed to #2 on the digital chart, leading to a new
peak of #6 on the Hot 100, position it has now been
holding for five consecutive weeks. This makes it
the highest charting single of the All-American
Reject's career thus far, beating the #8 peak of "It
Ends Tonight." The song has also climbed up to the
#1 spot on the iTunes top selling songs in the week
of January 20, 2009. It has so far reached #3 on the
Pop 100. The song became their first number one on
U.S. Mainstream Top 40 radio in early March 2009. So
far it peaked at #4 on the Hot 100. On the Canadian
Hot 100 it has so far peaked at #18. In February,
"Gives You Hell" charted in at #38 in the Modern
Rock Charts giving the All American Rejects their
first entry in that chart in over 6 years when "The
Last Song" charted there in 2003.
"Gives You Hell" debuted at #68 on the Australian
ARIA Charts in December 2008. It has risen to #3
there, becoming their most successful single and
first top ten hit on the chart. It has also reached
#21 on the New Zealand RIANZ chart.
On the UK Singles Chart it has reached 18 so far.
